The Athens and Nicosia Field Offices of the Directorate General for Translation of the European Commission and the Department of Linguistics, Faculty of Philology, School of Philosophy of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (UoA), organise the conference entitled "Language professions and the Digital Single Market", on Saturday 12 November 2016 (8:30-18:00) at the AULA auditorium of the School of Philosophy (Zografou University Campus). 
The Conference is open to representatives of all the types of language professions, i.e.:

  1. Translators and interpreters (public sector, EU Institutions, translation and interpretation companies, as well as free-lance professional translators dealing with technical texts, subtitles and dubbing); terminologists.
  2. Computational linguists, constructors or representatives of tools for translators and terminologists (software, internet services) available in the Greek market as well as bodies collecting translation data.
  3. Professors (Greek and foreign languages, translation, interpretation) and their students.
  4. Scientists from all sectors dealing with issues related to language, translation and terminology.

The objective of the conference is to discuss and analyse some of the main issues in a field that will be affected and will affect the future of the Greek language in the context of the establishment and the functioning of the Digital Single Market. This is a flagship initiative of the European Commission that will influence in the long term every aspect of everyday life and has an important language and translation dimension.
